Founded in 1927, the Jersey Farmers Trading Union was originally involved with all things agricultural and horticultural, becoming agents for fertilisers, feeding stuffs, glasshouses, dairy equipment, agricultural and garden machinery and equipment, as well as general farm supplies. Until the mid-1950s, we exported cattle and continued to export potatoes, tomatoes and cauliflowers until the end of the 1960s. It was at this time that we became heavily involved in water pumps and irrigation.
Later we began to diversify and gradually offered the general public clothing, footwear, general hardware and kitchenware, as well as servicing the needs of the plumbing trade.
In 1990 the name “Town & Country” was inserted into the trading name, in order to reflect our changing profile. To maximise selling space the workshops were moved into separate premises in St. Lawrence and later to their current location in St. Saviour. In 2001, we became agents for Kubota products in both Jersey and Guernsey. The Kubota brand has a good following in both islands and we offer a complete after sales service department in both islands to complement sales.
More recently, we have expanded our range to include Honda lawnmowers and Jacksons Fencing.
